Global Action for Women with Disabilities (GAWD) is a women-led, grassroots, membership-based nonprofit organization founded in 2019 and legally registered under NGO Board currently Public Benefit Organizations (PBO).
GAWD exists to advance the rights, dignity, empowerment, and socio-economic inclusion of women and girls with disabilities one of the most marginalized and underserved populationsin Kenya.
GAWD was established in response to persistent systemic barriers that limit access to education,
healthcare, livelihoods, protection, and decision-making spaces for persons with disabilities, particularly
women and girls. The organization addresses these barriers through a rights-based, gender-responsive,
survivor-centered, and disability-inclusive approach, combining targeted service delivery with inclusive
systems strengthening in line with the Twin-Track Approach to disability inclusion.
Geographical Reach
GAWD currently operates across Nairobi, Kitui, Kilifi, Kajiado, and Siaya Counties, with a growing
national outlook and aspirations for regional impact.
