Ongoing Programs

Lobbying & Advocacy

GAWD will lobby with governmental and non-governmental agencies for policy
dialogue between the disabled associations and policy-making and law-enforcement authorities. The purpose of the policy dialogue is to campaign for a change of laws that are not responsive to the needs and interests of women with disabilities. Above all, the community dialogue will focus on the need to enforce the existing disability friendly laws. Due to stigma and a culture that impacts negatively on women and more so those with challenges, cases of girls & women with disabilities being hidden away from public and other social set ups are rampant. GAWD has embarked on reaching out to such members and linking them to the National Council for Persons with Disability - NCPWD  for mandatory registration and subsequent engagement.
